Saturday 3rd September Potters Bar 3’s vs. Reed 2’s Reed – 140/10 (41.5 overs) vs. Potters Bar – 144-6 (44.4 overs) Potters Bar 3’s achieved their 2nd promotion in two seasons with victory in their final game of the season against Reed 2’s. With other results in the final weekend also going their way it meant that Potters Bar actually ended the season as runners up to Totteridge, who were in fact the only team that they lost to all season. Knowing that 14 points would guarantee promotion things were not made easy when the Reed captain won the toss and elected to bat first. However the ever dependable Neil Raisborough and Rupert Pyrah decided to take matters into their own hands and had soon reduced Reed to 10-3. Despite the best efforts of the bowlers more wickets were then hard to come by as the home side started to build up a promising score and when drinks were taken after 26 overs they were well placed on 104-4. However the 2 overs after the break changed the course of the game as the Reed skipper was well caught down the leg side by keeper Ravi Vigh, and then the Reed no.6 who was looking to be very dangerous was caught short half way down the pitch and despite his best efforts to get back was superbly run out with a direct hit from Potters Bar skipper After this the tail end soon faded as Raisborough and Pyrah continued to pick up wickets as Reed were eventually dismissed for 140 in just over 2 hours. Pyrah picked up another 5-wicket haul and Raisborough the other 4 as both bowlers finished above the 40-wicket mark for the season. This was a fine effort from both experienced players despite them missing several games during the season. So at the tea Break the equation was simple, 141 runs to win in 58 overs and promotion was guaranteed. Rob Daley opened up with the returning John Erroll and despite a couple of early scares they both settled down and had put on 57 for the 1st wicket before Erroll was stumped down the leg side. This bought in the ever-improving Ravi Vigh and along with Rob Daley they both continued to play their shots before Daley was caught in the gully with the score on 92. With 8 wickets still in hand less than 50 runs were needed, however a mini collapse then ensued and Potters Bar soon had a case of the jitters as they then found themselves on 110-5. The tension was definitely growing as victory was so close but seemed so far away, however the experience of Graham Taylor and Will Daley soon showed as they gradually moved the score along until

Saturday 27th August Potters Bar 3’s vs. Chipperfield 2’s Potters Bar – 66/3 (12.3 overs) vs. Chipperfield – 65/10 (40.5 overs) Potters Bar 3’s enhanced their promotion hopes on Saturday with a comprehensive victory over already relegated Chipperfield and, with other results around the league going their way, moved into 3rd place in the league with one game to go. After winning the toss skipper Paul Kennedy had no hesitation in asking the opposition to bat first and despite an opening partnership of 25 the 1st wicket soon fell as Neil Raisborough removed the Chipperfield opener. After this the wickets fell at regular intervals as both Raisborough and fellow opener Rupert Pyrah continued their good form this season and Chipperfield were eventually bowled out for just 65. Both bowlers were well backed up in the field with some fine catches being taken as Raisborough finished with figures of 20-5-34-6, and Pyrah with figures of 20.5-8-29-3. In reply Potters bar got of to another solid start as David Rock hit a very rapid 28 before being bowled attempting a rather reckless reverse sweep off their young spinner. Despite losing another couple of wickets victory was gained in just the 13th over with Andy Hughes edging the winning run through the slips to bring home the 30 points. With just one game to go, away at Reed, Potters Bar know that they must continue their good form of late to secure promotion. Although 15 points will guarantee Division 6 cricket next season they must look to win the game, as there is still the possibility of coming 2nd in the league depending on how other results go. Potters Bar 3rd XI Match Report Saturday 20th Aug – away vs. Graveley Graveley – 170/9 (53 overs) vs. Potters Bar III’s – 171/3 (30.3 overs) Potters Bar 3’s continued with their end of season promotion challenge with a comfortable 7-wicket victory over Graveley. Having won the toss skipper Paul Kennedy elected to bowl first on what appeared to be a bowler friendly wicket. After an opening stand of 37 the Potters Bar opening bowlers of Pyrah and Raisborough soon found their line and Graveley were pegged back at 40-3, however a partnership of 70 then followed from the Graveley opener, Newman, and the no.5 Cartwright before the latter was out, ct and bowled by Raisborough. This wicket then bought on a batting collapse from the home team who soon found themselves on 143-8 despite Newman making a patient 50. Graveley finished their innings on 170-9 from their 53 overs with Pyrah taking 5-85 and Raisborough taking 3-68. Both of these bowlers have now taken over 30 wickets each this season and is one of the main reason as to why the team are challenging for promotion. The other reason also has to be the way that the batsmen have always chased their targets well and this week was no exception. Despite facing a total of 171 to win the game openers Rob Daley and David Rock took on the Graveley bowling with some excellent attacking shots and the 50 partnership was bought up in only the 10th over and this soon became an opening stand of 100 in 18 overs before Daley was eventually out for 53. This bought in U17 Ravi Vigh who continued his recent good form as he and Rock added a further 23 before Rock was out for 71. Despite Vigh being bowled for a rapid 26 the damage had already been down and it was left to Chris Gratton to dispatch the opening bowler for another couple of 4’s to win the game with just under 17 overs still to go. With only 2 games to go Potters Bar find themselves in 5th place and just 7 points behind Northchurch in 3rd place. This week the Bar host bottom side Chipperfield with the knowledge that 30 points are a must as some of the teams above them still have to play each other on the remaining 2 weeks of the season. Saturday 6th August Potters Bar 3’s vs. Wheathampstead 2’s Wheathampstead – 185/9 (51.1 overs) vs. Potters Bar – 186/3 (38.1 overs) Potters Bar continued their recent good form with a comprehensive 7 wicket victory Wheathampstead to maintain their promotion hopes with only 4 games remaining. After winning the toss skipper In reply Potters Bar again found themselves in a bit of trouble at 36-2 from 12 overs, as both Rob Daley and keeper David Rock fell cheaply. This then paired U17 Jessie Tailor and Potters Bar’s resident Sri Lankan Ajith Walallawita together, and between the 2 of them added 120 for the 3rd wicket with a fine array of attacking shots before Walallawita was out for 72 in only the 32nd over. Tailor and fellow U17 player Ravi Vigh saw the remaining runs off with Tailor finishing on 68 not out to follow his 57 not out form the previous week. Despite not playing our best cricket this was still a fine victory for Potters Bar as they look to keep the pressure on the top teams in the league. It was also another fine performance from young Jessie Tailor who is maturing as both a fine seam bowler and top order batsmen with every game he plays and his recent contributions have been much needed in the push for promotion. Potters Bar - 143-5 (39.2 overs) vs Rickmansworth - 142-10 (52 overs) On a day when the weather affected many games around the region skipper Paul Kennedy had no hesitation on winning the toss to ask the opposition to bat first. This decision proved to be correct when Neil Raisborough claimed 2 early wickets to leave Rickmansworth on 6-2 from 4 overs. After this wickets proved hard to come by as the wet conditions and state of the ball did not aid the bowlers. However runs were proving even more difficult to get and it wasn't until the 40th over that Rickmansworth had reached 100-4. Soon after Raisborough, who was continuing to bowl an excellent spell from one end, claimed his fifth victim and this gave the team the vital pick up that was needed as they soon finished of the rest of the Rickmansworth batsmen for just 142. Raisborough finished the game with figures of 8-53 from 26 overs, he was well supported by U17 bowlers Dan Brown and Jessie Tailor who finished with 2-20 from 7 overs. With the threat of rain always looming Potters Bar knew that they had to go for the win at any cost in order to maintain their promotion hopes. Despite losing opener Rob Daley with the score only on 28, keeper David Rock and young Jessie Tailor soon moved the score along to 65 before Rock was caught at mid-on for 23. Another couple of quick wickets soon fell as Potters Bar suddenly found themselves on 83-4, however with over 20 overs still to go the balance of the game was still with the home team. After losing those 3 quick wickets Tailor was joined by his fellow U17 player Ravi Vigh and between the two of them they gradually moved the score past the 100 mark and closer to victory. Despite Vigh losing his wicket the experienced Will Daley joined Tailor at the wicket who soon went on to make a well deserved half century and after the game was won with a no-ball finished on 57 not out. With the possibility of rain affecting the game at any stage this was a vital win for captain Paul Kennedy and his team as results around them mean they have now moved into 5th position in the league, and they also have a game in hand over the top 3 teams Potters Bar - 226/9 (53 0vers) vs After suffering defeat for the first time this season at Totteridge the previous week, Potters Bar 3's restored some normality this week with a superb team performance against fellow promotion rivals Having lost the toss again Potters Bar were asked to bat first on a hot and sunny day on a decent wicket at In reply their shots quite freely. However the breakthrough came when their overseas opener was caught at backward point by
Potters Bar 101-10 (39.1overs) vs Northchurch 87-10 (49 overs) Saturday saw Potters Bar pull off a stunning victory over top of the table Northchurch, and in so doing inflicting defeat on them for the first time in nearly 2 years. On a cloudy day at Owens school and after the rain of the previous week the toss was an all important on to win and skipper Paul Kennedy again lost to his opposite number and was asked to bat first on what was going to be a bowler friendly wicket.
advantage and the wickets fell at regular intervals and it soon looked like it would be an early end to the afternoon. Despite surviving until the 40th over Potters Bar were all out for a lowly 101, this left Northchurch the simple task of getting 102 in 60 overs. The Northchucrh reply got off to the worst possible start as their young opener was out 1st ball in just the 2nd over, and despite some resistance from the opposition skipper and the no.3 batsmen the skipper soon fell to a superb one handed catch at second slip from Potters Bar capt. Paul Kennedy. This gave the home team a much needed boost and with the introduction of Pyrah and the continued nagging line and length from Neil Raisborough the runs were becoming increasingly difficult to come by. Another couple of wickets soon fell and once their hard hitting Aussie was caught behind of the bowling of Pyrah a victory was definitely on the cards for the home team. Despite the best efforts of the fielders who managed to put down at least 4 catches during the afternoon the duo of Raisborough and Pyrah had the opposition in all sorts of trouble and very soon the opposition were 9 wickets down with 15 runs to get, and with the score on 87 the remaining wicket was taken by a superb running catch from Michael John out in the deep. Pyrah recorded figures of 5-18 with Raisborough joining the party with 4-29 and skipper Paul Kennedy taking home all 30 points.
Saturday 11th June - Away vs Eversholt 2's This was another good result for the team and keeps the pressure on Northchurch who they face in a crunch game in just a couple of weeks. Next week however the team welcome Flitwick to the school knowing that another good result is required to keep that pressure up. Saturday 4th June Potters Bar 3's - 185-7 (44.3 overs) vs Old Cholmeleians - 184-9 (53 overs) After last weeks disappointing draw with Broxbourne the 3rd XI returned this week with a good win over near neighbours Old Cholmeleians. Having started the game a couple of places behind them in the league a victory was vital to maintain the good early season start that the 3's are having. On a blustery day down at Owens school, skipper Paul Kennedy, having won the toss decided to bowl first on what appeared to be a slightly damp wicket. The team suffered an early blow before the game when experienced opening bowler Neil Raisborough had to drop out with a sore elbow and it was left to U18 bowler Dan Brown and Michael John to then open the bowling. Both bowled with good line and length and it was Brown who made the early breakthrough having one of the openers caught and bowled. Bowling changes were soon made and the ever dependable Rupert Pyrah and U16 player Jessie Tailor soon carried on the good work and the away side were restricted to just 101-1 of 35 overs. It was then that they looked to increase the tempo but it was then that the bowlers started to pick up the wickets. Dan Brown bowled a superb line all day and finished with figures of 3-34 from 14 overs (and 3 catches in the field) and at the other end Pyrah finished with 5-61 from a 19 over spell. Thanks to some late hitting from the lower order Old Cholmeleians finished their innings on 184-9 from their 53 overs which on the school wicket is always a good total to score. In reply Potters Bar got of to a solid start before opener Rob Daley was caught hooking down at deep square leg with the score on 31. After this the runs continued to flow at a steady rate as all the batsmen got themselves into double figures but unfortunately then got themselves out. However returning U17 overseas player Adjitka Mehta played a very mature innings at no.5 and started to knock the ball around well and formed a solid partnership with fellow U17 player Ravi Vigh before the latter was caught behind. With a few overs to go the result could still go either way however the Bar were always going to go for the win and the opening bowlers of Dan Brown and Michael John both went in a hit a some vital boundaries to move closer to the win. However it was left to Mehta to hit the winning runs with 2 consecutive 4's to claim the 30 points and finish on 65*. |
