Colts Match Day Rules

Detailed below are the policies for team selection and procedures for matches.

1.      The Manager/Coach is responsible for the selection of players for each game.  Selection will be based on strength and balance, taking into consideration the opposition, venue and potentially ground and weather conditions.

2.      The Manager/Coach will be responsible for informing the player’s parents as soon as possible after selection.  To aid selection please ensure you notify your relevant Manager/Coach of any anticipated absences well in advance.

3.      A meet time will be given and players are asked to arrive by that designated time.  The meeting place is always at Potters Bar Cricket Club, although anybody wishing to travel direct to an away venue is entitled do so, but please ensure that the Manager/Coach is notified.

4.      We appreciate that parents of selected players may not be able to attend all the matches but would ask that if their child is selected arrangements are in place for that child to get to the match and home again. Transport to away fixtures can usually be arranged, but it is the parent’s responsibility to ensure their child gets to the appointed meeting place on time and is collected from the same place unless alternative arrangements are made.  If you have any difficulties you should liaise with your Manager/Coach.

5.      Should illness occur after selection please notify the Manager/Coach as soon as possible in order that a replacement may be found.

6.      All colts are expected to adhere to a proper dress code, cricket whites, a cricket shirt, Potters Bar if owned, (which must be tucked in at all times), cricket sweater, white socks, white training shoes or cricket boots and the club cap if desired. Please note that no other headwear, with the exception of a cricket helmet, will be allowed. A cricket helmet must be worn when batting or wicket keeping when a hard ball is in use.

7.      The appointed Captain will be in charge on the field in consultation, where necessary, with the Manager/Coaches.  We support encouragement from the sides where appropriate but would ask that advice is not proffered as this may contradict the Captain’s and Coaches’ plans.

8.      During PBCC innings the remainder of the team are expected to support the batsman and watch for strengths and weaknesses in the opposition bowling and fielding.

9.      In the event of wet weather on a match day a decision on whether a home match will take place or not will be made at 5pm.  Please contact your Manager/Coach for confirmation after this.  Away matches are dependent on a decision from the away ground and in some cases we may not have a decision before the proposed meet time. Please meet as arranged unless otherwise advised.

10.  Before and after all matches soft balls only may be played with and these must be kept well away from the clubhouse.  Cricket balls are not permitted unless agreed by the Team Manager

11.  During a match playing with cricket bats and balls of any kind off the pitch is not permitted unless warming up with the Team Manager/Coach or with their express permission..

12.  Colts and their parents are reminded that, in keeping with the spirit of the game, during a match the umpire’s decision is final.
