New Players

Nick Walker

Nick is the first high profile signing of the close season and for our club to get a player who has only just dropped out of the First Class Game is testament to just how much the club is moving forward.

Nick started his club career at Sawbridgeworth when he made a whirlwind 100 against Radlett which impressed Radlett coach and skipper Dave Houghton to sign him almost immediately after the game and take him to Derbyshire.

Nick then announced himself on the scene by slaughtering the Somerset attack with 80 off 57 balls and taking a cheeky 4-for all on debut.  He followed that up with a 63 off 32 balls against Leicestershire.

With chances limited at Derby, Nick chose a spell in club cricket and a brief spell at West Herts aided his move to another midlands county, Leicestershire.  Despite moving onto Leicestershire his appearances were limited, but to his credit he still managed to average 23 with the bat and take 18 first class wickets and claim a well deserved man of the match in the Pro-40 in 2006 where he took the top 4 Somerset batters and had a 5th dropped at slip.

Steve Gale

Steve is Bars second signing of the winter where he has left his boyhood club Hatfield, where he was captain and the  mainstay of their batting.  The run machine has enabled Hatfield to climb up the leagues and the last two years is testament to this.

Last year Steve averaged 60+ from his 28 innings including hitting a club record 161* against Harpenden 2s.  In 2006 it was even better as he made over 1800 runs with an average of 57.  He has started winter training with Hertfordshire and will be a top asset for the club.

We have seen Steve in action at The Walk where he guested for ex-President Dave Lawrence in 2006 for the Presidents XI where he made a tidy 31* off of just 25 balls.
