Colts Under 11 Squad

This year sees the welcome return of Phil Mabbett to Potters Bar Cricket Club, he will be assisting me in the coaching and running of the U11’s and I look forward to working with him.

We start the season with around 20 colts in the U11 group this year, and I am sure that others will join as the season develops. There are two aims for this year the first is for the children to have fun and enjoy themselves. The second aim is to turn the children into a cricket team! Not an easy task you might say. Well I know a few of the boys and girls from previous years, and I know that I have the core of a good U11 team this year.

With the cricket club going from strength to strength in recent years, I enjoy being part of grooming of future players.

U11’s League vs Southgate Adelaide 10^th May - Match Report

Potters

Potters Bar: 75 all out

Southgate Adelaide: 76-5.

Southgate Adelaide won.

The match was played on a chilly, sunny evening at Southgate Adelaide. This was the boy’s first league match of the season. We lost the toss, and were put into bat. Our top 6 batsmen were skittled out quite quickly, by mainly playing around straight deliveries, only to find that there stumps were not in the upright positions that they should be in! Southgate Adelaide’s opening bowlers proved a bit too strong for Potters Bar.

We struggled to 75, with bowling and fielding extra’s making up half of our final score. Our top scorer was Ben Taylor with 11, followed by William Hepke who was run out for 8.

We then showed our determination in the field, keeping the runs scored against us to a minimum. There were some good bowling performances, especially from Jack Wilshire 2-12 off 2 overs, and Bradley Swaile 1-10 off 4 overs.

It was all going to plan, until the Southgate opening bowlers came in to bat. They accelerated the score and were left needing 4 from the last over. Southgate lost their top batman, with a great catch from our wicket keeper Jack Mabbett, diving full stretch to a looping catch. This left them requiring 2 runs from the last ball. Had there not been a misfield, the match would have been drawn.

Over all it was a good performance, but there is lots of room for improvement.
