PBCC U15's East Champions 2005
PB 107-4 Beat Mill Hill Village 101
In another nailbiting finish Potters Bar u15s beat their hosts from Mill Hill Village by 6 runs. After losing the toss Potters Bar made steady progress and on ten overs were 44 for the loss of Ryan Pope. Captain Luke Owers added momentum to the score with 27 quick runs whilst Tom Pett 36no played the anchor role. after the loss of Owers, Sam Titmuss came in and smashed 21 rapid runs to boost the total to 107-4.
In reply a tidy opening spell kept the runs down but a 2nd wicket partnership of 49 runs put the village on track. After 15 overs they were coasting at 76-2 but a brilliant caught and bowled by Luke Owers changed the game. Tom Pett 1-16, Owers 2-25 put the squeeze on but once again young Joe Skinner 4 overs for just 9 runs proved what a good prospect he is at the age of just thirteen. A good fielding display led by Toby Seaman in particular enabled four run outs to be achieved to help back up the bowling and give a final winning margin of 6 runs.
8th June PB V Finchley
In a close and exciting game PB held there nerve and scrambled home on the very last ball of the match. We won the toss and batted first on a good Finchley wicket and made a slow and deliberate start seeing off the Finchley opening attack. We lost a couple off wickets but captain Luke Owers hit the bowlers to all parts of the ground and although dropped several times played an inspirational innings of 52 n.o. supported by others he gave us a total of 104-4 to defend.
Finchley also got off to a slow start because of good bowling by Neil Oak and James knight who kept it tight and after 15 overs Finchley were 59-3.in came a lad who then preceded to smash the bowling to all parts and with one over to go Finchley needed 10 to win and looked odds on favorites to get the runs.
Enter young Joe Skinner who bowled the last over with a maturity beyond his years.he pitched the ball well up to the batsman even beating the bat a couple of times.the hitter who had raced to 32no in 4 overs could not handle Joe and PB secured a win off the last ball by 4 runs.
PB 104-4 Luke Owers 52no
Finchley 100-3
All in all a satisfying result with the boys getting better as a team every game, keep up the good work lads.
u15 v Barnet 23/5/05
Barnet 120-2
Potters Bar 93 all out
Barnet batting first and looking a strong line up were kept to 120 due to a mixture of good and bad fielding .If that seems strange we were at times really good with some brilliant ground fielding only to ruin it in the next few balls with some sloppy groundwork that undid all the good work previously. Captain Luke Owers had best bowling figures of 2-16 off 4 overs. in the batting Ryan Pope top scored with 29 but in all truthfulness we were always behind the run rate and never really threatened the Barnet score. one oddity was that Barnet’s number 7th change bowler came on and took with his lobbers7-8 in 2.3 overs!! hari kari here comes Potters Bar.
